What is so Special About Tuesday?

Here are some things about Tuesday I will bet you did not know. Tuesday, in English, gets its name from the Norse god Tyr (Tyr’s-day) while other languages took it from the Roman god of war, Mars. That is why Tuesday is “Mardi” in French and “Martes” in Spanish.

Tuesday, not Friday, the 13th is unlucky in Spain and Greece and it is the day of the week least likely to be Christmas Eve. It is also said to be the most productive day of the week.

But that is not why I am telling you all this.

Tuesday, December 3 is Giving Tuesday

According to its founders, Tuesday is also the namesake of Giving Tuesday, a day intended to counteract the greed engendered by Black Friday sales and to remind us that unselfish giving is — you will forgive the expression — a foundation of the holiday season.

What You Can Do

Because Giving Tuesday encourages us to do good, many people mark the day with volunteering, donating time or money, and spreading a message community, support, solidarity and hope. Look for opportunities in your neighborhood and organizations. Maybe a day of volunteering time with friends is the perfect way to start the holidays.

Remember Us

While we hope the spirit of generosity leads you to support many of the nonprofits that deserve your assistance this holiday season, we hope you will also consider a gift to the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation. Your special donation will help fund our programs to build healthier communities by improving access, education, equipment and services. Here is a link where you can donate on Giving Tuesday or any other day.
