Have you ever been truly entranced by music? Do you remember a time when the background of reality faded away until you found yourself delightfully lost in rhythm, tone, and textured sound?
Adrift in enjoyment, you probably did not think about the therapeutic benefits of music at the time, but it has intrigued physicians of all types and cultures throughout the millennia.
Isn’t it (Baby) Grand?
I am mentioning music as therapy because I want you to think for a moment about what is therapeutic and, more importantly, about what therapy can be. The Baby Grand piano the Foundation purchased for the lobby plays itself to provide a soothing background of music. It brings GVMH employees together to sing carols and to hear our own communities’ pianists willing to share their talent.
A Wide Range of Therapies
Today, music therapy is integral to the Speech Therapy Services offered at GVMH for treatment of conditions such as Parkinson’s. But music therapy is just one of hundreds of methods — some developed over thousands of years — that our healthcare community uses to improve our quality of life as it relates to our health. As a Foundation, one of our jobs is to help bring the therapies that will make people better and stronger with those who need them, and to help develop new ones.
Giving is Therapy
Perhaps not surprisingly, philanthropy is therapeutic. Practicing it helps us develop empathy and broaden our perspectives of the world. It also provides a sense of purpose and increases one’s happiness and sense of optimism. When you give to the GVMH Foundation, you will be supporting a wide range of programs intended to lift our collective well-being.
Whether it is bringing home world-class radiology equipment or providing a much-needed personal medical device at home, our motto is We Are Here When You Need Us.
Your donation helps us fulfill our promise.
