Clinton, Mo. – (Oct. 21, 2019) – Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH) is pleased to announce that Dr. James Womack, MD, has passed the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery board certification.
Board certification is a voluntary process. It is different and distinct from a licensure to practice medicine, a function regulated by state government. A valid medical license is required to be board certified, but certification is not necessary for licensure. A board certified physician has met certain standards and passed tests that are developed to assure the public that he or she has been adequately trained in a given specialty. To be allowed to begin the process of becoming board certified, a surgeon must be a graduate of an accredited four-year medical school and have successfully completed a five-year accredited orthopedic residency program in the United States or Canada. The final 24 months of the training must be obtained in a single program.
Dr. Womack received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from the University of Southern Colorado, attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Kansas Department of Orthopedics. He has practiced as an orthopedic surgeon at GVMH since 2011.
“We appreciate Dr. Womack’s dedication to go above and beyond to complete this certification and his commitment to providing the highest quality care,” said Craig Thompson, CEO at GVMH. “Not all orthopedic surgeons obtain this certification and it separates our team from others. We are proud to be up-to-speed on all the newest techniques and literature and offer all-inclusive, high-tech orthopedic services close to home for our patients, such as the Mako Robotic-Arm assisted knee replacement.”
