Clinton, MO. – (May 23, 2024) – Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare received a grant from Healthy Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for $1.5 million over three years to fund a new program for nurses called Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention Simulation Education Training Program (NEPQR-SET) and build a simulation lab.
The purpose of the program is to enhance nursing education and practice to increase the number of nursing students trained in acute care settings to address and manage social determinant of health factors and improve health equity and health literacy in underserved areas. This program aims to advance the health of patients, families and communities and improve health outcomes by strengthening the capacity and skillset of nurses prepared to provide high quality culturally sensitive care.
“We are extremely proud of our Sim Lab,” said Casey Landsberg, Director of Education at GVMH. “It allows students and nurses to learn how to handle emergency situations on top-of-the-line mannequins, which provides an immersive and hands-on learning experience for nursing and healthcare. The situations are built to mimic various healthcare settings such as emergency rooms, hospital rooms and labor and delivery rooms to fully immerse students in the clinical experience. Evidence-based practice shows that live simulation for training allows for safer patient care. The cost of the equipment often makes simulation labs like the one we are building an unattainable dream. However, the HRSA grant allows our current and future local students, as well as nursing staff, access to equipment that will increase patient safety and confidence in care that would otherwise be impossible in our area.”
