Clinton, Mo. – (March 22, 2022) – Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH) would like to share that Moderna and Pfizer are seeking Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for second COVID-19 booster shots.
On March 17, Moderna formally requested the FDA grant emergency authorization for a second booster shot of its COVID-19 vaccine for all adults over 18 who have received approved vaccines.
While earlier in the week on March 15, Pfizer and its partner BioNTech, requested authorization for a second booster shot for people over 65 who have been vaccinated.
In news releases from Moderna and Pfizer, both companies stated that their requests were based in part on data after the emergence of the Omicron variant that showed a second booster lowers rates of infection and severe illness.
“A second booster has not been approved by the FDA or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at this time,” said Christine Faulconer, Director of Quality and Risk. “We are continually monitoring the process and will keep you up-to-date on the status. If a second booster shot becomes approved, we will provide information on how you can get your shot at GVMH.”
