Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare Welcomes New Dietician and Diabetes Educator

Clinton, MO. – (Feb. 13, 2025) Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH) is pleased to welcome Hadassah Hitefield, a Dietitian, and Jennifer Maggard, an RN and Diabetes Educator, to its team. They will assist with the Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT) program, which teaches people how to manage diabetes.

Hitefield received her Master of Arts in Nutrition and Dietetics from Union Institute and University, Cincinnati, Ohio. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Health and Wellness from the University of Arizona Global Campus, Chandler, Ariz. As a Dietitian, she is responsible for the optimal nutritional care of all our patients. She will be working closely with oncology patients, providers and staff to bring a new level of nutritional care. Malnutrition is known to affect up to 75% of cancer patients, increasing treatment-related complications and hospital stays.

Maggard received her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Sanford-Brown College, Kansas City, Mo. She has been a Registered Nurse for 29 years and is glad to be back at GVMH. As a Diabetes Educator, she provides individualized diabetes self-management, education and training to individuals and groups in a clinic office, inpatient or community setting.

What diabetes patients will learn:

  • Blood sugar monitoring: How to monitor blood sugar levels and take medication 
  • Communication skills: How to communicate with healthcare providers and others 
  • Exercise: How to be active and improve physical health 
  • Healthy eating: How to eat a healthy diet 
  • Problem-solving: How to solve problems and make decisions 
  • Risk reduction: How to reduce the risk of other health conditions 
  • Symptom management: How to manage symptoms like fatigue, sleep issues, stress, depression, and hypoglycemia
